Please note that for safety reasons all Winter and Spring training programs will require you to wear lights and reflective gear for afternoon training sessions.

Winter Warriors

This 8 week training program is designed to help you maintain your fitness and endurance between seasons.  Whether your goal is to get in shape, get faster, or workout enough to enjoy those winter holiday meals; THIS IS THE PLAN FOR YOU!  Our workouts are designed to build running strength and develop muscle endurance.  Coaches will guide you through weekly workouts that focus on speed and efficiency using interval training on the track and on hills.  We meet twice a week at our Fleet Feet store for both group workouts.

Monday nights you will be challenged to build strength with cross training workouts specifically designed to build running muscle. Designed to help you maintain your fitness and build muscular endurance, you will be amazed with your improved overall fitness from these challenging and fun sessions. 

Thursday nights we will focus on running form and running endurance. Our Thursday workouts are designed with a combination of hill work, form drills, and speed workouts to help you run faster and with more efficiency.

Winter Half Marathon Training Program:

Join the tens of thousands of people who challenge themselves every year to the fastest growing distance race in the country – the half marathon. This terrific 13.1 mile distance is challenging and yet achievable. Our programs target runners, run/walkers and walkers. We have an exceptional coaching staff to lead you in your training. Pace groups, speed work, and specific training plans will enable anyone who can currently run 5 miles to finish their first half marathon or improve over previous performances.

Whether you are a seasoned half marathoner or a first timer with the goal to finish, our half marathon program is designed to challenge, encourage, and to help you have a healthy training experience as you build up mileage and speed in preparation for the 13.1 Mile Race. Fleet Feet Sports Half Marathoners are broken into various pace groups based on running background as well as goals. These pace groups are designed to help you train in a safe and effective manner as you build up your base mileage.

Tuesday nights you will be challenged with a combination of hill work, form drills and speed workouts. Designed to help you run faster and more efficiently, you will be amazed with your improved overall fitness from these challenging and fun sessions. 

Saturday's distance runs will be done at a slower pace to increase the amount of time on your feet and to encourage quick recovery. Saturday long runs will be crucial to your success in the race as they help you to build up cardiovascular, muscular, and skeletal strength for the endurance to finish the entire event.

  • Goal Race: Tobacco Road Half Marathon - March 7th, 2019**
    • Although we have set this as our goal race, the program was planned to train anyone with a goal race within the month of March.  March is a busy month for half marathon races and and this program will get you ready for any of them eve if you choose not to do our selected race.

Winter 10K Training Program(with Cooper River Bridge Run Option)

There are two options available for this training program.  We created two options as we do not want to require people to only have one race option and miss out on this amazing training program.  Both 10K programs will be training together, but will have different race goals. The 10K training programs are 8 weeks long with 2 coached workouts per week.  This is perfect for anyone that is comfortable running the 5K distance and wants to add a little more, but isn't yet ready for a half marathon.  What a great and memorable race to start your long distance running career!  We start with 3 miles and work our way up to and past 6 miles.  Coached workouts are designed to push you and make you stronger with hill work and faster pace runs as well as longer easy runs.

  • Program Length: 8 weeks
  • Group Training Days: Tuesdays at 6:00pm and Saturdays at 7:00am
One option for this training program will not have a goal race and will prepare athletes to race any 10K in the month of April,

The other option for this training program is a special opportunity only offered to FLEET FEET, which will be training people for the Cooper River Bridge Run in South Carolina.  This awesome race draws out thousands of people and we have a special program just to train for this race! This program is a FLEET FEET only program and has added value provided by the FLEET FEET brand along with the training program.  Perks include: Race entry fee, Fleet Feet runner corral for all Fleet Feet stores (one big happy family!), special Fleet Feet only bag drop,  special Fleet Feet finish area sponsored by Mizuno in Marion Square, and more special Mizuno brand perks! Winter Walk To A Mile: 

Ready to take the first step in your fitness journey? Whether you are looking to get off the couch or find accountability with a group, our Coaches and Mentors will help you cross the finish line of your first race. This Walk To A Mile program is designed for those who are first time athletes wanting to start their fitness journey, those with limited mobility or injury looking for something to keep active, to those who just love to walk!  Our walking program will build your endurance and enjoyment of being active and getting outside to walk.  

Benefits of Walking Training (adapted from the Mayo Clinic):
Physical activity doesn't need to be complicated.  Something as simple as a daily brisk walk can help you live a healthier live.  A few benefits from walking include: Maintaining a healthy weight, prevention or management of various conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes, helping strengthen bones and muscles, improving your mood, and improving your balance and coordination.

The faster, farther and more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits.  We want to empower you to become a regular walker and establish a regular routine to help you continue with the activity and new healthy behaviors.
